Animal Healing – My Approach
Like humans, animals can experience a wide range of physical, emotional and behavioural challenges.
As a Complementary Animal Health Practitioner, Animal Communicator & Healer, I support the health and wellbeing of domestic pets, horses and wild animals in captivity through a unique, multi-disciplinary approach.
Considering the Whole Animal
No two animals are the same. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, I begin by considering the whole animal – their physical health, emotional wellbeing, behaviour, environment, relationships and individual circumstances.
Through careful observation, intuitive connection and communication, I create a personalised approach guided by the animal’s individual needs and responses.
A Multi-Disciplinary Toolkit
Working holistically allows me to explore the many factors that may influence an animal’s wellbeing, while supporting calm, trust, relaxation, balance, resilience and greater quality of life.
Depending on the animal, I may combine:
Animal Communication • Applied Zoopharmacognosy & Sensory Enrichment • Animal Energy Healing • Equine Healing & Massage • Distant Healing & Communication
Supporting You Too
Uniquely, I also support the humans in an animal’s life, recognising that the wellbeing of animals and their guardians is closely connected. This may include breathing exercises, guided meditation or healing support – always led by what feels comfortable and appropriate for you.
Discover more about the Animal–Human Connection.
What You’ll Receive
Following each session, you will receive a comprehensive written report, including my observations, your animal’s responses, any self-selected plants or natural remedies, practical guidance and personalised recommendations. My aim is to empower you to play an active role in supporting your animal’s ongoing health and wellbeing.
Learning & Interactive Workshops
My work is not only about supporting animals directly, but also empowering the people who care for them with greater knowledge, confidence and understanding. Through Interactive Workshops, I share practical skills and insights that can help you deepen your connection with the animals in your life and take a more active role in supporting their ongoing health and wellbeing.

Animal Healing
Everything is made of energy. Every cell, tissue and organ within the body carries its own energetic frequency, and when an animal experiences stress, illness, injury or emotional upset, this natural balance can become disrupted.
Animal Healing works to support the body’s own healing processes by encouraging balance, relaxation and wellbeing.
My work is gentle, non-invasive and tailored to the individual animal.
Sessions may take place hands-on, hands-off, or at a distance, depending upon the needs of the animal and the circumstances involved.

When an animal experiences stress, illness, injury or emotional upset, their natural energetic balance can become disrupted.
Animal Healing supports the body’s own healing processes, encouraging balance, relaxation and wellbeing.
My work is gentle, non-invasive and tailored to the individual – hands-on, hands-off, or at a distance, wherever the animal may be in the world.
Animals respond naturally to healing, often showing clear signs of relaxation during a session.
As part of my multi-disciplinary approach, it may be combined with Animal Communication, Zoopharmacognosy, Massage, Sensory Enrichment or Distant Healing.
Supporting Pain Relief and Recovery
Pain and related behavioural issues can be greatly helped by Energy Healing.
Animals that have been ‘holding on to’ their pain are able to ‘let go’ and allow their bodies to relax and heal.
Energy healing can be stimulating, with heat and pressure being commonly described by my human clients, and you’ll often see your animal respond clearly this too.
Energy knows no bounds
Because energy isn’t bound by distance, I’m able to work with animals wherever they may be in the world.
Animals generally respond very naturally to healing. During a session, they often show clear signs of relaxation and engagement, helping their guardians to see the process unfolding before them.
By encouraging a calmer, more balanced state, Animal Healing can support physical comfort, emotional wellbeing and overall quality of life.
As part of my multi-disciplinary approach, Animal Healing may be combined with Animal Communication, Applied Zoopharmacognosy, Massage, Sensory Enrichment or Distant Healing to provide tailored support for each individual animal.
Supporting Pain Relief and Recovery
Pain (and associated behavioural issues) can be greatly helped by Energy Healing. Animals that have been ‘holding on to’ their pain are able to ‘let go’ and allow their bodies to relax and heal.
Although working mostly ‘hands off’, the treatments can be stimulating, with sensations like heat and pressure being described by my human clients. You will clearly observe your animal react and respond to my touch or hands-off energy work.
Animals are also deeply attuned to us, often responding to our own emotional and energetic state. To understand more about this connection, and how supporting yourself can support your animal too, visit The Animal–Human Connection.

“Anthea, the healing you did with Stella – I believe – gave her the strength to keep going. It also provided me with the time to connect with her deeply, and the peace of mind to find new ways to help her – sourcing homeopathic remedies, and naturopathic remedies from around Europe. With these combined healing modalities, Stella is eating again, and more like her old self.

Animal Communication
Animals are living, breathing, sentient beings with their own thoughts, feelings, emotions, preferences and experiences.
Through Animal Communication, I seek to better understand the animal’s perspective, helping their guardians gain deeper insight into their companion’s life and wellbeing.
Over years of professional practice, I have developed a unique methodology, refined through hundreds of sessions with animals across the world.
This allows me to connect respectfully, and on the animal’s own terms – in this life and the beyond.

Building a Connection
Before meeting an animal, I ask for photographs so I can quietly introduce myself. In dedicated sessions, guardians can share any questions or messages they’d like me to pass on. To keep communication clear and unbiased, I ask guardians not to share too much background in advance – allowing me to approach each session with an open mind.
On the Animal’s Terms
Every animal communicates differently – some confident and forthcoming, others quieter and more reserved. Communication always takes place on the animal’s terms, at their pace, and can never be forced.
Whether in person or through photographs and meditation, Animal Communication offers valuable insight into an animal’s emotions, experiences and wellbeing – helping guardians understand their animals and strengthen the bond they share.
Building a Connection
Before meeting an animal, I ask for photographs, which I use as part of my own preparation process to begin building a connection.
In dedicated communication sessions, I invite guardians to provide any questions they would like me to ask, along with any messages they would like me to pass on to their animal friend.
To ensure the communication remains as clear and unbiased as possible, I ask guardians not to provide too much background information in advance. This allows me to approach each session with an open mind and discover what the animal chooses to share.

Whether working in person or remotely, communication provides valuable insight into an animal’s emotions, experiences, relationships, preferences and wellbeing – and can help guardians better understand their animals and strengthen the bond they share.
This bond is two-way: just as I seek to understand what an animal is communicating, animals themselves are highly attuned to us, often sensing our emotional and energetic landscape.

Distant Healing & Communication
Distance is no barrier to healing and communication, as energy knows no bounds. This service is ideal for animals and their guardians, wherever they may be in the world.
How I Work
Over the years, I have developed a unique methodology of connection, communication and collaboration with the animals and guardians who come to these sessions.
Working from photographs, I connect with your animal at their own pace, tuning-in to what they choose to share. Across the process I am able to:
Distance is no barrier to healing and communication, as energy knows no bounds. This service is ideal for animals and their guardians, wherever they may be in the world.
How I Work
Over the years, I have developed a unique methodology of connection, communication and collaboration with the animals and guardians who come to these sessions – built around three days, and three sessions.
Over two consecutive days, I connect in deep meditation with photographs you have sent me, tuning in at your animal’s own pace. During each session, I:
Ask your questions and relay your statements
Invite them to share their own thoughts and opinions
Scan their body for any areas “of note,” marked on the photographs
Send you a recorded voice transcript after each session
On Day 3, we meet for an hour on Zoom to debrief – discussing what has come up and answering any questions you may have.
Working Within My Scope
While I am not permitted to diagnose medical conditions, these sessions can highlight areas of discomfort or concern that may benefit from further investigation – with veterinary or other professional advice recommended where appropriate.
A Clearer Picture
This comprehensive process helps create a clearer understanding of the animal’s needs, often providing valuable insight into their health, wellbeing and quality of life – helping guardians understand their animals more deeply, and strengthen the bond they share.
– Ask your questions, relay your statements and ask your animal for their thoughts
– Feel into their body for any areas that may need attention
– Note anything significant, so it’s clear and easy for you to follow
– Keep you closely updated throughout, so you never feel at a distance from the process
– Discuss any questions you may have
I offer a range of packages, from a single connection, through to a more comprehensive process – so you can find the right fit for you and your animal.
If your animal is nearing the end of their life, this work can be a supportive part of that journey. Please see End of Life Support for more.

Her connection to them is pure and the methodology she uses, connecting over two days, in my experience, is unique and integral to the healing that happens as a result of her work. I’ve gained such insight into my beautiful animals as a result of her work and the information Anthea has been able to share with me through my animals has aided me in optimizing their physical and mental health, enriching their environment at home and more deeply understanding them on a soul level. Whether still in their physical bodies or not, Anthea’s ability to connect with my animals has been a gift that keeps on giving. I’m so very grateful for the wisdom she’s been able to share and bring forward from my horses, dogs and kitty. Thank you Anthea. You are a gift!”

Equine Healing & Massage
Horses communicate constantly through their behaviour, posture, energy, preferences and responses to the world around them. Sometimes they are simply asking to be heard and understood.
Working holistically, I consider all aspects of your horse’s life, including their physical wellbeing, emotional health, environment, nutrition, relationships, workload, stabling, pasture and general husbandry.
A Multi-Disciplinary Approach
Drawing upon Equine Healing, Massage, Animal Communication, Applied Zoopharmacognosy and intuitive assessment, I take a multi-disciplinary approach to help build a clearer picture of what may be influencing your horse’s wellbeing and behaviour.
Wellness Detective Work
These sessions often act as a form of “wellness detective” work, helping horses and their guardians gain a deeper understanding of what is happening beneath the surface. Physical discomfort, emotional challenges, behavioural changes, environmental influences and even the concerns of the human guardian may all form part of the wider picture.
Listening to the Horse
By listening to the horse and considering the whole animal, we can explore practical ways to support their health, comfort, wellbeing and quality of life.
Horses are also deeply attuned to us, often sensing and responding to our own emotional and energetic state. To understand more about this connection, visit The Animal–Human Connection.

Applied Zoopharmacognosy & Sensory Enrichment
Animals possess an extraordinary innate ability to seek out and use the natural substances their bodies need. Zoo-pharma-cognosy means “animal medicinal knowing” – their bodies are primed to recognise and self-select the plants, minerals, soils and other resources that support their health and wellbeing, helping to treat pain, injuries, parasites, chronic conditions and mineral deficiencies.
Working With Natural Wisdom
Applied Zoopharmacognosy works with this innate wisdom, offering domesticated animals – who no longer have the freedom to roam and find their own resources – the opportunity to make their own choices, just as they would in the wild.
By offering a range of herbs, plants, essential oils, hydrosols, clays and other natural substances, animals are able to self-select and self-medicate according to their individual needs.
What Their Choices Reveal
The selections an animal makes reveal a great deal, both physically and emotionally – for example, anxiety, digestive discomfort, aches and pains, or lymphatic support. Selections made by the body, in support of the body, can never be predicted – only supported.
Animals tend to reveal one layer at a time, addressing their most pressing needs first, with further layers emerging in time. For this reason, I recommend at least three sessions, allowing me to follow up and check in with the animal’s changing needs. It’s a form of wellness detective work in its own right – patiently uncovering what lies beneath the surface, layer by layer.
Their bodies know best. My role is to offer the opportunity to self-select and self-medicate, to recognise and listen to their responses, and to guide guardians in creating an ongoing plan to support their animal friend.

Sensory Enrichment
Sensory Enrichment improves the emotional, psychological and physical wellbeing of animals in domestic and captive environments, through stimulation of the senses – sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.
Sensory Enrichment
Sensory Enrichment aims to improve the emotional, psychological and physical wellbeing of animals in domestic and captive environments, through stimulation of the senses – sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.
In my work at Monkey Haven, I have worked with aromas, herbs, seasonal plants, fruits, nuts, tree browse, clays and flowers – creating interesting, challenging and enriching ways to offer these experiences, encouraging problem-solving, dexterity and physical activity to stimulate both mind and body. These offerings are of real value to the animals’ health and wellbeing.

End of Life Support
Saying goodbye to a beloved animal companion is one of the most difficult experiences we face as guardians.
At this deeply sensitive time, I offer compassionate support for both animals and their families, helping you walk the final part of the journey together with love, dignity and understanding.
A Calm and Supported Presence
Through a combination of Animal Healing, Animal Communication and gentle emotional support, I help create an environment of peace, comfort and reassurance.
My aim is to support the wellbeing of both the animal and their guardian, allowing precious time to be spent together and helping everyone feel as calm and supported as possible.
Every Situation is Unique
Some families seek practical guidance, others emotional support, spiritual reassurance, or simply a calm and understanding presence during this important transition.
Our beloved animals share their lives, their trust and their unconditional love with us. In return, we can help them experience a passing that is filled with comfort, compassion and respect.
If you would like additional support for yourself during this journey, my Guided Meditations have been created to help bring calm and connection at difficult times.
“You have helped us more than you could know… Thank you so much for yesterday – for your love and care… He died at 4am, his little paw in my hand… His last few days were full of love and comfort, and with the people who loved him so much by his side.“

Bereavement Counselling & Healing for Pet Loss
This service forms a natural bridge between my Human and Animal Healing work, offering compassionate support during one of life’s most difficult transitions.
This service forms a natural bridge between my Human and Animal Healing work, offering compassionate support during one of life’s most difficult transitions.
The loss of a beloved animal companion can leave a profound emptiness.
Daily routines change, the silence can feel overwhelming, and those around you may not always understand the depth of the bond you shared or the grief you are experiencing.
Wherever there is a cherished pet, there is a human heart that has loved deeply.
When that relationship changes through loss, it is natural to feel a wide range of emotions – sadness, guilt, anger, loneliness and uncertainty.
Healing does not mean forgetting. It means finding a way to honour the love you shared, while gently learning to live with their physical absence and carry their memory forward.
Having a compassionate, understanding person to walk alongside you – someone who truly understands the bond between humans and animals, and who has travelled this path themselves – can help you process your emotions and begin to find your footing again.
Together, we create a safe space where you can talk openly, share memories, and express your feelings without judgement, as you find your way through the journey ahead.

Supporting You and Your Animal Friend
My work extends beyond the animal to include the humans in their life.
By helping animal guardians feel calmer and more grounded, we can create a more settled environment for their animals.
Depending on your individual needs, I may introduce simple breathing techniques, grounding exercises, guided meditation or healing support to help regulate your nervous system and encourage a greater sense of clarity and ease.
These gentle practices require no previous experience and are always led by what feels comfortable and appropriate for you.
My aim is to support both you and your animal friend, whilst sharing practical techniques you can continue to use long after our session has ended.
When you both feel calmer and more connected, positive change can become easier to support and sustain.
Many animal guardians also choose to continue this support between appointments through my professionally recorded guided meditations – created to help you both find calm, whenever you need it.
“I thoroughly recommend Anthea’s modest, grounded, comprehensive knowledge and skills to add to the quality of life of both your pet and the people who care for them.”

Primates & Wild Animals in Captivity
I believe that all animals deserve access to compassionate care and support, including those living in rescue centres, sanctuaries and captive environments.
Hands-On Experience at Monkey Haven
As part of my commitment to animal welfare, I volunteer at Monkey Haven on the Isle of Wight, working alongside the animal care team to support the health and wellbeing of rescued primates.
My role has enabled me to gain valuable hands-on experience with a variety of species, while developing a deeper understanding of the physical, emotional and environmental challenges that rescued animals can face.
Drawing upon Animal Healing, Applied Zoopharmacognosy, Sensory Enrichment and my wider complementary animal health knowledge, I support the wellbeing and rehabilitation of animals who may have experienced trauma, neglect, illness or significant life changes.
Healing Takes Many Forms
Working closely with both the animals and their keepers has reinforced my belief that healing takes many forms. Sometimes it involves promoting relaxation and comfort; at other times it involves providing choice, enrichment, trust and opportunities for recovery.
This specialist experience continues to inform and enrich my work with domestic pets, horses and animal guardians throughout my practice.
Trust and connection lie at the heart of this work, whether with a rescued primate and their keeper, or an animal and the guardian who loves them.

The Animal-Human Connection
Animals are deeply connected to the people with whom they share their lives.
Highly perceptive and sensitive to the world around them, they respond to changes within their family, pack, herd or environment.
They notice subtle shifts in our behaviour, body language, health and emotional state – sometimes before we recognise those changes within ourselves.
What we are experiencing physically, mentally or emotionally influences the atmosphere we create around us.
Our animals may respond in their own individual ways – staying close, offering comfort, becoming unsettled or reflecting changes within the home.
Where Thought Goes – Energy Flows
Our thoughts, feelings and emotions influence not only our own wellbeing, but also the energetic environment we share with those around us.
Because animals are so attuned to these subtle shifts, the connection we share with them offers another way to understand how our own sense of calm and balance, or dysregulation, can shape the environment we create for them.
Supporting You and Your Animal Friend
For this reason, my work extends beyond the animal to include the humans in their life.

Anthea also shares a genuine interest and positivity in the progress of her clients. Big Thank You, Anthea.”

Appointments
Most in-person appointments last approximately 2 hours and include an in-depth consultation, assessment and tailored support for your animal.
As every animal is unique, the number of sessions required will vary. However, I generally recommend a minimum of three appointments to achieve the best results and allow sufficient time for observation, integration and ongoing support.
In multi-dog households, each dog will usually require their own appointment, depending on the nature of the issues being presented. Combined sessions may be possible by prior arrangement.
Distant Communication & Healing sessions take place over three consecutive days and involve approximately 5 hours of dedicated work, including a 1-hour online follow-up consultation with the animal guardian.
As I offer a range of services and a bespoke, multi-disciplinary approach, prices vary according to the individual animal, circumstances and level of support required.
If you would like to discuss your animal companion and explore the most appropriate options, please get in touch. I would be delighted to arrange a conversation.
Cancellation & Rescheduling
I understand that life can be unpredictable and that plans sometimes need to change.
If you are unable to attend a scheduled appointment, please let me know as soon as possible.
In most circumstances, I will be happy to rearrange your appointment for a mutually convenient time.
As many appointments involve travel and dedicated preparation time, I kindly ask that as much notice as possible is given should you need to cancel or reschedule.
I reserve the right to charge for appointments cancelled at short notice or where an appointment is missed without prior notice.
Thank you for your understanding and consideration.

I undertake regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training, enabling me to expand my knowledge, refine my skills and remain up to date with current developments in complementary animal health and wellbeing.
Insurance and Professional Standards
I am fully insured through Balens Specialist Insurance Brokers, and hold professional memberships with a number of recognised organisations. These are dedicated to animal complementary health, professional standards and continuing professional development.
Legal Obligations
My work is complementary to, and not a replacement for, conventional veterinary diagnosis, treatment or advice.
I abide by the RCVS Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.
In accordance with this legislation, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) recognises a number of complementary therapies as acceptable when used alongside conventional veterinary care. These include contact healing, laying-on of hands, distant healing, thought transference, prayer and the use of radionics instruments.
I do not diagnose, prescribe, treat, cure or perform surgery on animals.
The veterinary surgeon remains responsible for the diagnosis and medical treatment of the animal. I will never countermand veterinary advice, instructions or prescriptions.
I maintain professional insurance through Balens Specialist Insurance Brokers and comply with UK Data Protection legislation. Consultation and treatment records are stored securely in accordance with legal and insurance requirements.
Animal Healing
About Me
Animals have been a constant presence throughout my life, and from an early age I felt a natural connection with them.
My lifelong menagerie has included birds, cats, dogs and horses, and wherever life has taken me – whether travelling, living overseas or simply exploring new places – animals have always found a way to become part of the journey.
To me, animals are far more than companions. They offer unconditional love, trust and friendship, while teaching us patience, presence and understanding. In return, I believe we have a responsibility to care for them with kindness, respect and compassion.
How My Work Began
Over 30 years ago, while practising human massage, I first became aware of my ability to work with healing energy. Over time, this natural ability developed alongside a growing understanding of animal communication, behaviour, health and wellbeing.
Today, I combine intuition, professional training and practical experience to support animals and their guardians through a unique multi-disciplinary approach.
It is a privilege to help strengthen the bond between animals and the people who love them.
Our beloved animals are living, breathing, sentient beings, and they deserve our love, respect and protection.

FAQs
Q1: How do I decide which of your Animal Healing services are right for my animal? And how many sessions will I need?
You don’t need to decide which therapy or approach your animal needs before we begin. Every animal is unique, and my work is always tailored to the individual.
Before their first appointment, I ask you to complete a comprehensive consultation form. This gives me valuable information about your animal’s health, history, lifestyle, behaviour and current wellbeing, together with your own observations and your intention for their session(s) – what you most hope we can support, explore or better understand.
From there, I draw upon and blend the different modalities within my practice according to your animal’s individual needs. This may include Animal Communication, Energy Healing, Applied Zoopharmacognosy, sensory enrichment or gentle massage, rather than approaching each therapy in isolation. Your animal is always given a choice, and their responses help guide the session.
Some animals may benefit greatly from a single session, while others need ongoing support or a series of sessions, particularly where concerns are more complex or longstanding. I will always work according to your animal’s needs, while also taking your circumstances and budget into consideration.
My aim is to create the most appropriate and supportive approach for your animal, working together with you to achieve the best possible outcome for their health and wellbeing.
Q2: What is Animal Communication and how does it work?
Animal Communication is an intuitive, telepathic way of connecting with an animal beyond spoken language. Animals communicate constantly through body language, behaviour, energy and their senses. Through a quiet, meditative connection, I tune into the individual animal and may receive information as images, words, feelings, physical sensations or simply a sense of knowing.
Animal Communication forms part of most of my Animal Healing sessions. Beforehand, I ask you to provide photographs of your animal together with your questions and statements, but I prefer to receive minimal background information. This allows me to approach the communication with an open mind and share what I receive without being influenced by a detailed history.
The communication is always led by the animal and unfolds at their pace. They may share information about how they are feeling, their relationships, environment, past experiences or current life, and sometimes draw attention to something they would like their guardian to understand.
As part of this intuitive connection, I am also able to sense into an animal’s body and may become aware of physical sensations, areas of tension, discomfort or other areas of note. I share these observations with you as part of the communication and healing process.
Animal Communication does not replace veterinary diagnosis or treatment, and I do not diagnose medical conditions. If something arises that I feel warrants further investigation, I will encourage you to seek advice from your veterinary surgeon or, where appropriate, another suitably qualified clinical professional, such as an animal dentist, physiotherapist or chiropractor.
Animal Communication can offer valuable insights into your animal’s wellbeing and help deepen the understanding, trust and connection between you.
Q3: How do I know when my animal friend is ready to be helped across the ‘Rainbow Bridge’?
Knowing when it may be time to say goodbye to a much-loved animal friend is one of the most difficult decisions any guardian can face. There is rarely a simple answer, and it is completely natural to seek reassurance, understanding and greater clarity at this deeply emotional time.
I am often asked to tune in and communicate with an animal who is approaching the end of their life, sometimes in the days or weeks beforehand and sometimes on the same day that a veterinary surgeon has been called to help them peacefully across the ‘Rainbow Bridge’. Where possible and appropriate, I can also visit you and your animal in person.
During the communication, I can ask your questions and relay anything you would particularly like your animal to know. I can ask how they are feeling, whether there is anything they would like or need, and whether there is anything important they wish to share before they pass. I also invite them to offer messages for their human guardian and, where appropriate, for the other animals with whom they share their life.
These conversations can bring enormous comfort and may help you feel more connected to your animal during this precious time. They can also create an opportunity to say the things you need to say, listen to what your animal wishes to communicate and approach their passing with greater peace and understanding.
Animal Communication does not replace veterinary assessment, particularly when decisions about pain, quality of life or euthanasia need to be made. I encourage you to work closely with your veterinary surgeon while I support you and your animal emotionally, energetically and intuitively through this final stage of your journey together.
